We  occasionally  reveal  interesting  things  about  ourselves  through the  forms we  fill out. In one of the early published accounts of an American  family  where  the  wife  went  out  to work  and  the  husband stayed home  to take care of the children,  the young daughter at school, faced  with  filling  in  the  blank  for  father's  occupation,  came  up  with"househusband."  And  Alvin  Toffler  tells  the  story  of  the  divorced woman,  filling out a  job  application  tk)r IBM,  pausing  at  the question of marital  status  and  thoughtfully replying,  ~'unremarried.'" Changes  are  taking  place  in  our marriage  and  family patterns.  Sex roles  are changing.  Divorce  and  remarriage  are on  the  rise.  People  are having  fewer children. What  does  the  future hold  for the United States and  other  highly  technological,  postindustrial  societies'?  Toffier,  in Future  Shock,  speculates  about  the  following  family forms  and practices,  and  suggests  that  they will  take  on  more  importance  in  the future:  "'Childless  marriage,  professional  parenthood, postretirement childrearing,  corporate  families,  communes,  geriatric  group  mar- riages,  homosexual  family  units,  polygamy." But  the  forms  that  he sees  the majority  innovating  with  are  temporary marriages  and  serial marriage
