Abstract
This paper investigates the effect of Siloxane rejuvenation liquid based on Titanium Isopropoxide (TIPT) catalyst on revival and rehabilitation of water tree aged distribution medium voltage XLPE power cable insulations. Rejuvenation liquid contains Silane coupling agent and TIPT catalyst which is injected into aged cables under specific pressure, temperature and time. Reaction of TIPT with water inside water tree voids in hydrophilic regions of the insulation, TiO 2 particles are generated which fill water tree voids, rejuvenate the insulation and increase its lifetime. After injecting rejuvenation liquid into aged cables, dielectric loss factor ( tanδ) of injected cables is measured each 7 day during 30 days and the results are compared with aged cables before injection and new unused cables. Surface electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of aged and rejuvenated insulations is performed and the results are compared. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis is performed on aged and rejuvenated samples and detected wave number of peaks are compared. EDX analysis studied the absorption rate and type of absorbed elements on the surface of rejuvenated samples. According to the results obtained from the above tests, the effect of rejuvenation liquid based on TIPT catalyst on rejuvenation and restoration of aged XLPE cables is studied
